Default More from the "Your camera takes nice pictures" front.

In Real Estate, A Picture Is Worth $1,000 or More - Yahoo! Real Estate

At least there was minor mention of the broker bringing a professional photographer to the table.

That broker is an exception. Most are so tight they squeak when they walk.

Luke, we do some real estate photography for one of the larger local real estate companies here in town...mostly when they are promoting a higher end house. It's pretty quick and easy money, and a heck of a lot better than chasing some 2 year olds around in our regular business. I'd like to do more of these, and I think they see the value in professional level photos done with the right gear.

I have typically taken my own photos and made the sales brochures. Sold houses in bad markets in a flash, while others languished for over a year.

I wouldn't mind doing some of this myself, but what I took from the article was, buy yourself a fancy pants camera, and you can raise the market value of your home considerably by just taking pictures with said fancy pants camera.

It doesn't take in to account things that have to be understood, such as lighting, angles, and other technicalities of doing photography in that type of environment. They were basically thumbing down point and shoots based on the IQ, which I strongly disagree with. I have seen some great interior shots done with a p&s.

Luke it's really not the P&S itself, but more a matter of being able to use a speedlight with some bounce capability...you can really light up a room a lot better than your little on camera flash (whether a P&S, or SLR) A good medium-wide angle lens also makes a difference

I understand what you are saying completely, but that is not really what I was getting at about this article.

Nevermind, just let this thread drop in to limbo.....

I agree completely and have often stated that P & S take great photos IF one knows how to use them.

The last time that I sold a home and made a brochure with the photos all the local realtors wanted me to make brochures for them.

It might be that the data is right but the conclusion is wrong. The camera could just be a reflection of the attitude towards the photography for the majority:

P&S = Ahh whatever, click, click... upload.
dSLR = I am serious about these photos and am going to make sure they are good.

Having a dSLR and a shitty attitude is not going to automagically make great photos, the article writer is stupid.

" the article writer is stupid.".........now this wasn't necessary......let's make some intelligent points and not devolve into name calling and slander.
