Default Got my new light kit today!

Well, I've been looking into picking up some inexpensive strobes to take the place of my speedlights when shooting portraits and such. It gets to be kind of hassle to charge up batteries and all when I'm around electric that I could plug in to. I found a place near-by that sells the Promaster 160ws lights for $50.00US. I bought one just to see how I would like them. Alien Bees they're not, but for the price and what I want to do, they're great. This week, I found a complete Promaster kit on ebay. Two more 160's, two promaster lightstands, two umbrellas, and the promaster carrying case. Along with it, a Promaster backdrop set, with stands and cross-bar. Picked the whole thing up for $150.00US. I'm kinda chomping at the bit to try it all out now, but in the morning, I have a shoot at the plant where I work. The plant manager hired me to take photos of the complex for a brochure he wants to put together.

Soon as I get things set up, I'll let you know how it all works out.

Keep on shootin'.
Mark

Sounds pretty cool. I'm just beginning to experiment with off-camera lighting, but going the strobist route for now, I like that I don;t need electricity!

Yup......I use the Canon 580 's and have two external power supplies. They're easy to set up and light to carry around, more importantly puts out tons of light.

I have 3 Canon Speedlight, a 550, 430, and 420. Also have 3 Cactus V4s. I do use them quite a bit, but I also do alot of indoor shooting for myself and others of stuff for ebay, craigslist, etc., so charging batteries all the time gets kind of time consuming. I do like the versatility, size and ease. The new strobes will be set up in the studio/spare bedroom.

Now your getting it! That and for what I paid for the whole outfit, I couldn't buy 1 more speedlight. Hell, the backdrop set-up goes for what I paid for the whole outfit and I was needing a portable one.

Hello, Hayward. We're doing just fine. It has gotten a bit warm the last couple of day and have a few more to go before it cools off again. I'm ready to try these new lights out to see what they can do. I still need to pick up a couple different modifiers, but I do have the basics from the speedlights. I really needed the backdrop set-up. The one I was using wasn't the best outfit in the world.
How is everyone around your place? I hope fine.
Looking forward to seeing you this coming spring, we missed you this year.
Keep on shootin',
Mark
