Default I don't want to let anyone use my camera!

I've been lurking here for a few months reading, clicking links, and learning a lot. I love photography more than any other visual art I've put my hand to.

Last year I bought a Canon SX200 IS. After poring over the manual, reading books and blogs on photography, shooting only in Aperture/TV/ and sometimes Manual. I became comfortable with my little point and shoot.

People liked my photos. My sister wanted a camera just like mine...She got a SX210 IS yay! Well she never read the manual never visited this site (or any other I sent to her) and shoots in Auto or the creative modes. She phones me asking, "Why don't my pictures look like yours?" I told her to read her manual.

Fast forward a year I decided I wanted to do more with photography. I bought my first DSLR Canon T2i/550D. Yay me!!!! Still reading, buying books and getting books from the Library. I just take family photos when we gather and flowers. I'm having fun! People like my photos.

At our last family gathering I wanted to eat so I handed over my camera to my sister who loved it. My sister phones me telling me I love your camera and can't wait to use it to do a photoshoot from my friend .

I'm not comfortable with that AT ALL. I wasn't comfortable with anyone using my P&S. This is going to have to be a no. I don't want to disappoint her but it's not going to happen.

Tell her if she wants good pictures like you take, then you need to be the photographer.... that it's YOU making the good photos, not the camera.

That feeling doesn't go away...

only 10 minutes ago my wife picked up one of my cameras to take a picture of one of the cats doing something stupid... my hackles raised immediately when I heard her cracking the case and pulling it out.

and she's my wife.

and she second shoots with me every weekend.

like crack, just say no.

She said she will be getting a DSLR for her birthday next year in April. I say go for it so she will keep her mitts of mine!

She is of the feeling that the camera takes good pics...Oh well.

Ack, I understand your dilemma! My sister does this stuff to me. Well, not ask to borrow my camera, but.....well, it's a long story. Yeah, just say no.

Evidently it’s like women borrowing clothes. Well, I never liked or permitted that either.

Since it’s your sister, you may want to explain that the same camera available for rent at her local shop—because, you need yours all the time.

Cameras are delicate things. Those who “borrow” them must be responsible if something goes wrong. Renting makes that happen.

Nobody uses my equipment unless they agree to "If they break it, they either repair it or replace it."

I understant this totally and really don't understand why the shutter buttons don't come with finger print readers so we would not have to share our gear

Nobody uses my gear no matter what. My wife has her cameras I have mine. We do not use each others gear period. I refuse to be responsible for breaking hers and she the same.
