Default So tell me why I need a Mac

My HP is about to kick the bucket, so i'm shopping around for a new laptop. Im starting to take my photography seriously, and im looking to become pro. I went to Best Buy to price laptops and a guy there said he recommends a mac due to the ease of use. I asked him if that was the only reason why he reccommends it, and he said yes... and because "Macs usually don't get viruses". I know computers like the back of my hand so I don't need to buy a computer just for user friendliness. So is there any other reason why I should go Mac? Anyone have any reccommendations?

Mac operating systems (OSX) use less resources than Windows and they have a lot of small ergonomic differences that make them well worth it. Mac Spaces alone is worth the extra. Not only that, but they dont slow down over time like WIndows machines do.

I have worked with Window$ since the early 90's. Consider myself well versed with Office.

That being said, I bought my first mac (desktop) a year ago....and bought my second (laptop) six months ago....I would buy another one in a minute.

So during the day, for number crunching, scheduling, and day to day business, I boot the computer to Window$7 and run Office.

But for anything other than that, web, photography, website maintenance...I use OSX.

There are some differences to get used to....but once you get your head around it, there is a much more relaxed feeling using a Mac...(believe me it is hard to understand, until you experience it.)

It does take some getting used to, realizing you dont have to worry about EVERY single virus outbreak.....

Thanks for the replies everyone! I just wanted some opinions before I spend that kind of money. So you think they are worth the money?

I agree with what has been said by everyone else. I use multiple Windows computers, from servers, desktops, and laptops like I'm currently using. But, when it's time to work on photos a Mac is the only thing I will use. I ran PS for a long time on a top of the line Widows machine, and when I moved to Mac I found the speed increase amazing. And the big ticket item for me is it just runs and all the maintenance involved with the other computers is not needed.

"Macs usually don't get viruses" - Sort of a bad reasoning behind a good suggestion. While it's true they usually (key word) don't get viruses, it's not as simple of an answer as just that. That's not the only reason.

There's some good input in these threads:

Macintosh, any good reason to get one?

Best Laptop for Photography????

So yeah, if you have the money for it, get one. When taking everything into consideration they're quite worth it.

I disagree.

I've used both. I was less than impressed with my Mac experience - Macs do, contrary to popular opinion, have problems and do crash. The Macs actually crashed more frequently than my Windows machine ever did. Performance on the Mac was around the same as the Windows machine given the same or very similar specs. The price, however, was close to double. So no, for me, not worth it.

I went back to a Windows machine.

Absolutely!

I have several macs and would never spend my own money on a PC with Windows, especially for creative work.

Check out the links given. This subject has come up before.
