Default wedding today..Need Advice !!!

ok guys need your advice again. I have an outdoor wedding by the river to shoot today. Of all my lenses which are 18-200 40-70 50mm and 85mm which one should I keep on the camera ? ( my guess is either the 40-70 or 18-200 )

another questions is I just got my 85 1.8 and I cannot seem to get eyes in focus please give me some suggestions on helping me get the focus nice and crisp !!!

one more thing. I was told the 40-70 was really good in low light buit I am just not seeing it..I usually work in Aperature priority mode and have my iso somewhere between 300 -400 with the f stop at its largest ( low #) at dusk I still have a hard time without using flash..any suggestions !!! please respond with any help thanks a bunch my DPS friends

Just watch you depth of field with that 85. Shooting at 1.8 leaves you with a sliver of area that stays in focus.
The 40-70mm - Never heard of it. What speed is it?

Remember to meter of the dress so that you dont blow the details.

(are you the main photog on this wedding? Good luck)

Do you only have 1 body?
If so the 24-70 is the one you want on most of the time. Certainly the best optics and versatility.

If the light is excellent, then consider the 200. The problem is during the service you have crucial moments close together and you will not have time to switch lenses.
Keep the 24-70 on and just ask if you can get a little closer to catch the rings etc.

I agree with everything gturner said...
To help get critical focus w/ the 85mm you can use liveview/ tripod mode, but then you need to use a tripod and take more time....not good for "active" subjects. Otherwise avoid f/1.8 unless you are working from some distance.

The 24-70 f/2.8 is *relatively* good in low light, but it is still about 1 stop slower than the 85mm. Bump up your ISO..800 is very usable on the D300...even 1600 if necessary.

Do you have a second body? it'll be a backup, but also if there's 2 lenses you think you'll us most, put one on each body. switching cameras is not as slow as switching lenses

i'll second that. i just did a wedding. we had three bodies. and how that made it easy to get a photo. just pick up another camera if you want another lens...
