Hello!
I wanted to suggest the creator(s) of dps forum to add a section only for the b/w conversion of photos. I don't know about everyone else, but even after a year of practice with photoshop I still don't get my b/w conversions right. While I know a true dark and true white are necessary I think sharing with others on this specific theme might help me improve. If a section only for this might be too much how about creating a tutorial on b/w conversions? I would like to know what others think about this proposal. Feel free to share your opinion and experience on the topic. Thank you. P.S.I am not sure I posted this commnet in the right section of the forums so I apologize in advance.

Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, check out the tutorial I did on this a while back, here.
This is just one technique, but I find it gives punchy results. I've recently learnt about using Photoshop's Calculations command to convert to B&W and with the right photo the results can be excellent. If you want more info on this let me know and I'll see if I can work up a tutorial. And, yes, I agree that there should be a B&W section!

Thank you RecurrentNerve for the (huge!) tutorial, it will take me some time to read it completely but I am sure it is worthy : )
