Here's some info from the link Gizmodo had in their article (probably should have posted this along with the original but whatever...)
Never Take an Out-of-Focus Picture Again: Adobe’s New Photo Technology What it seems like actually happens is the light passes through several lenses before getting to the sensor and all of the information from the different lenses is saved all at once. Or something like that, this is pretty neat!

Meh.. Call me a miserable old cynic, but I don't see the point. As someone else commented on the Gizmodo thread - trading resolution for umpteen pictures so you don't have to bother focussing.
Maybe Adobe could spend their time a little better by developing Lightroom's ability to deal with highlights in pictures, so that their £300 piece of software isn't beaten into the ground when processing pictures of live bands by Canon's free software..
