Red face Photography books

Being new to photography I would like to be able to read as much as possible about the art...

What are some books and magazines that you recommend for a complete beginner? I already have Digital photography for dummies but would love to find more...I subscribe to DP and Popular Photography...any other good mags?

Thanks for any input!

I've recently bought Tom Angs Photography book. They are actually quite good. Explanations, diagrams, assignments and professional photography:behind the scenes stuff.

this one i currently own this one and another.

Highly Recommended!

While written for film, I still consider ansel adams three photography books to be very useful, even in the digital age - I learned alot about the spirit of photography - which is highly applicable. The camera, The negative and The print...

Hear, hear! I think everyone in order to purchase a digital camera should learn photography by shooting film.

I first read the Ansel Adams books when my camera had three controls: focus, shutter speed, and aperture. It had no exposure meter, and you had to wind the film by hand.

I just gave my son, who has never shot a single picture on anything but a digital camera, copies of all three books last Christmas. They are just as germane to the art of photography today as when they were written.

Hi Wanda, it’s hard to recommend books because there are hundreds of great books out there. Some local (Kentucky) names are James Archambeault, John Snell, Adam Jones, all have books about KY. Magazines I like Outdoor Photographer & Shutterbug, check the local bookstore.

It would be nice to be rich enough to buy a film camera and learn everything and then have the $$$ left over to go buy the nice digital camera afterwords.
