Default No Respect for Photographers

Saturday and Sunday was a huge car show in the northern part of US, called the Northeast Nationals in Essex, Vermont. We also had our muscle car there as well (1976 Ford Torino) and Sunday was the last day. At 2pm the award ceremony was happening and I walked around trying to find a really good spot where no one is behind me and what not, you know a good clear point of view with nothing in the way.

I found that spot and started shooting cars as they were leaving the stage and next thing you know this old guy with a stupid golf cart parked right in front of me!! And he saw me standing there taking pictures, he blocked my whole view of the cars, so I couldn't get a good shoot. Another thing is, that I wasn't the only photographer either! There was two more with a DSLR taking photos too and they all shook their heads and found another spot. haha Oh man, I really wanted to walk up to him and say Thanks a lot, or please move your stupid golf cart.

But any who, I walked across from where I was originally and actually got better shots, I took a seat on the ground and got WAY better pictures, So i'm not really complaining too much about it, but the fact that he just had no respect for photographers really upset me. I took a photo of him in his stupid golf cart.

Well thats my rant for today...

That is pretty darned rude. I have had people accidentally walk into my shots then apologize and quickly move out of the way. But some people are just rude and don't care.

that sux....

the vast majority of the time if i'm shooting in public with my "big" camera, people actually stop and wait for me to take the camera from my face.

i think only a small handfull of times has someone walked through my shot intentionally.

Yeah a lot of people did that to me, they waited till I took my camera away from my face, I guess thats a good benefit from having a big DSLR, haha.

But for someone to like park their golf cart right in front of me? It's like come on, really? You really gotta park that in front of me, plus other photographers next to me? Just so damn rude...

But then again, some people just don't care and some that care and respect photographers.

Absolutely, 100%, categorically NOT sticking up for this guy…BUT. Some people are that wrapped in there own little world either one he never thought for one minute he was in your shot or two, he, like many others out there didn’t think a great big ugly golf cart in the shot would matter!

Its possible this older gentleman is one of millions out there who are happy with photos of limbs missing, heads cropped off and semi blurred images and has no idea what ruins a photo and what it takes to get a near perfect shot. That’s the pitfalls of trying to get perfect images in a public place where other public people have the right to be…unless the area was coned off strictly for photographers.

As you said you found a better spot and got better pictures which is awesome (and why are we not looking at them on DPS lol) Look at it this way, its incidences like this that make you a better photographer and try to think a head. Hell you need to thank him for the learning curve LOL

Nerwin, please don’t think I’m not on your side as I’m 100% getting your complaint. But
Joe Public wont always understand what it takes to get the shots and Joe Public probably never will.

Oh' one more thing, great composition and colors in the photo of the cart :0)

Same here. D300s and a grip is quite large, especially with a 70-300 or even the 10-24 attached.

Yeah, he probably is, but still... haha I kind of thought it was funny anyways. Well the car show was like 3 days long, though, however, I only went 2 out of the 3 days but I think I got almost 500 shots, so it's going to take me a while to go through them and decide which ones I like and then post-process them.

Once, I get them done, maybe i'll share them with everyone.

haha, I know, It's just how it is when your at an event with 2-3,000 cars and over 10,000 people...

But you know to me honest, there wasen't that many people that jumped in my way, few the guys leaving in the cars stopped and let me take a few pictures of their car, I thought that was kind of cool, another guy opened the hood, opened the doors and everything for me.

Sometimes i'll just stand there and wait until everyone gets out of the way and sneak in that shot before people crowd around the car i'm shooting.

haha Thanks for the compliment, it was just a quick shot...

I only have a D60 and I used my 55-200 VR during the award ceremony and my 18-55 VR to shoot cars.

May not be the most expensive or greatest camera in the world, but damn I can get some impressive shots with it, but I think my next camera will be the D300s, but by the time i'm ready to buy such an expensive camera, Nikon will probably have a newer version of the D300s, I did see that D7000 which I guess is in between the D90 and the D300s, Which i was considering, but I think i'm going to go more toward the D300 area.

At least you had other options on places to shoot.

I shot a runway lingerie show this past Thursday night. Only place to be was at the end of the runway, to get a shot as they did their pose. Kinda hard to do when your elbow to elbow with great multitudes of people that's had too much to drink.

I had to shove one dude out of my way shooting with a little video camera two times. I asked him nice at first. I confronted him during the break, and he was filming it because his wife was the MUA.

I apologized, and told him I was shooting for the designer, and had to get my shot. He shot over my shoulder the rest of the night.

I hate how people can be like that, I bet you had a couple blurry shots from people bumping into you, I can't stand that. But like other people above said, some people just have no clue, they just don't know....
