Default Interesting Riddle/Survey

So I was just listening to the radio on the way home from dropping the kids at school.
The DJ gave this riddle:

A man and his son are in a car accident. The father is killed instantly and the boy is rushed away to the hospital for surgery. Upon looking at the boy, the surgeon says "I cannot operate on this patient because he is my son."

Who is the surgeon?

Anyone? Do you know?

The surgeon is the boy's mother.
They did a survey of sorts with this particular riddle, asking random adults averaging age 40, almost none of them got it right. The most common answer in adults was God.
Then they asked a group of 5th graders who were about 10-11 years old. Almost all of them got it right. Other incorrect answers from 5th graders were stepfather and "other" father (as in from a same sex marriage).
I thought this was really interesting that the younger generation is apparently less gender and relationship biased than the older generation.
And I will admit, the riddle stumped me too!

A man walks into a bar and asks the barman for a glass of water. The barman pulls out a gun and points it at the man. The man says "Thank you" and walks out.

Why?

Why?
Because he has a bomb strapped to his chest? I don't know. Why?

I got it, but the riddle scenario makes no sense. Why wouldn't she be able to operate just because it's her son? It's obviously an emergency. Or is there some law that says a doctor can't administer medical help to their own child?

I didn't get the first one though, funnily enough I was listening to a radio programme about gender bias yesterday as well. It obviously didn't have a lastin gimpression.

The way I understand it, under the hippocratic oath, doctors are not supposed to treat their own families. Conflicts of interests can arise, and it is also illegal to bill insurance for such treatment. In a hospital situation, it would be turned over to a colleague.

Back to the riddle. I got it too! Yay me! +1
