Default Cruzer

Hi, I have a cruzer 4gb usb stick, it used to work with vista then i changed to W7,
the cruzer no longer works I tried again with the vista but no go. the light on the device lights up but the pc does not ackowledge it, sometimes it says it is installing the software for the device only to tell me it has failed.
My sone also has the same cruzer and it works fine, I have some photos on the device that I would like to recover, I have not tried any recovery programs because I think if the computer cannot even see the device then how could a recovery program?
Am i wrong? has anybody experienced this problem, and does anyone have any other ideas?
Peter

Have you tried putting the flash drive in another machine; your son's, perhaps? Or a machine running Vista? If you can get another machine to open the drive long enough to recover your files, do it.

If it works on another machine, you can assume the problem is then between win7 and the drive, although I have a cruzer flash drive and am running win7 on three different machines and mine works on all three.

If you can't get the drive to open on another machine, it is probably the flash drive that has failed. Sorry, I don't know about any recovery software.

Good luck.

Simple: Cruzers have software on them from the factory. It's the same reason they don't often work with photo ordering kiosks. W7 might not be liking the software and is rejecting it, or trying to install it.

Pop it into another machine, delete the software (format if necessary), then try again.

Default win 7

I have tried it in machines running W7, vista and even XP, it does the same on all of them, sometimes it attempts to install and fails sometimes nothing.
I have tried my son's drive on my machine, no problem I even tried to install the software from his to use the drivers with mine, Nothing.

How about this? Put your cruzer in one usb slot. Wait for the drivers to fail to load. Put your son's cruzer in another usb slot, leaving yours in the first. Wait for the drivers to successfully load. Try reading both cruzers.

Doubt if it would be that simple, but what the heck? It's worth a shot.

You'll likely need to format it. Plug it in, go to My Computer, right click the drive and click format. Or put it on a mac

Like OS says, try it on a Mac. Or a Linux box. Long shot, but it might work.
