Okay, so I want to be down on the field for my brother's game this weekend. What is the protocol? Do I just call the school and ask for a pass or something? Do I need some kind of credentials? The pictures are for my own personal use, but if I take pictures of other kids do I give them to the school?
Help a sister out. Clearly I am clueless. Thanks!

Usually, you can't just walk into the field to shoot pictures. Check with the athletic director. Normally, there is someone that is taking pictures on behalf of the booster club and/or school. Even though they are for personal use, you don't know what type of agreements might be in place. I know that our photographer provides the images for free for posting on the football team's website, but he does sell them via his own website.

Make SURE you talk to the school administration before posting any photos of students anywhere (print or non-print media). Many schools will not let you even post to personal blogs unless you have a signed consent form from parents. I don't know if you planned to exhibit them in any public format, but I just thought I'd mention it. I know authors that have taken pictures of classes reading their books and have been scolded for posting them on the Internet.
