Default What is your desktop screen resolution?

Websites have been designed 800x600 to fit the average smaller monitor forever. It seems to me the average monitor size these days is 22+". So that led me to wonder what most people are using for their desktop resolution.

I have a 30" and a 28" monitor both set at 1920x1200. With that screen resolution these sites leave a lot of screen real estate wasted. So, that led me to wonder what most folks here set their screen resolution at these days.

Current standard is actually to design for a 1024x768 screen, which comes out to 940 wide by about 600 high. Part of it is because of the "death" of the desktop: A lot of people are opting for laptops or netbooks instead of desktops for their computers, so smaller screen sizes are the norm. There are no 22" laptops, and even a 17" is unwieldly.

OSX naturally selects 1440x900 for a 15" MBP, so that's what I left it at. I dont know if I'd want to go any larger: things just get too damned small.

Ya know, my pea brain never even considered laptops for some reason, lol. Thank you for pointing that out. I think I've just become part of the "Out of Touch" generation.

19" at 1440x900. My netbook is 10.1" at 1024x600.

Most people I know that have larger monitors don't really browse web full screen.

The BBC is great at updating their website every year or two to keep up with the dominant screen formats - I love how occasionally you stumble onto an old story and it literally doesn't take up more than a third of the screen!

In terms of screen real estate, there is this thing called 'Windows' which allows you to work within small windows and therefore you can use more than one programme at a time. It never ceases to amaze me how many people have 5 different programmes open at a time, but have them all full screen maximised so they can't just flick between them at the click of a button (yes, I do know about the start bar!).
