I don't kow if it's frustration or impatence but I soooo want to aspire to this photographer who is THE creme de la creme in our town. Phil is really lovely and attends our camera club from time to time to do speaches and demos and I have learnt loads from him but oh man! If only I could just spend a good few days with him tagging along on shoots. I'd even tote his bag for him
![]() These are the kind of images I want to create: Phil Evans Photography Its my wedding anniversary on Tuesday and I have given my husband a list.....

Ask him if you can hang out and learn a few tips. All he can say is yes or no.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I think its still pretty much full on wedding season for him at the moment so I'll wait until things are slightly quieter for him and maybe ask if I could tag along later in Autumn when the leaves turn golden and gorgeous!
All aspiring pros need to start somewhere and learn from someone experienced but its finding someone willing to teach that can be a stumbling block and I think it would really help me to find a mentor in real life who can spend some time teaching me the ropes on a hands-on practical way. I could even sit next to him taking notes on how he edits his photos to make them look so beautiful. He's a very patient man and I could learn alot from him. I've been reading, reading, practicing on my own but its like I've reached a plateau. Reading from books isn't the same as actually "doing".

One never knows what tomorrow may bring. Never wait till tomorrow. Do it now. He may say wait till it's slower, but by asking you all ready have your foot in the door

I asked him if I could tag along and he said absolutely.
Looks like you lost your chance.

I'll pick up the phone later I promise and let you know how I get on.
On a side note. I picked up some instructions on Blending Modes that he wrote but I think he uses CS5 and I use PS Elements 8 (yeah I know different league but well.... I'm trying) and No 2 on the instructions says that I have to "add mask by clicking mask icon at bottom of layers palette and using paintbrush tool set at 50% opacity with black as foreground colour. Paint over areas which are too dark". Thats ok but where is the Mask Icon?? Is the another way of getting the mask icon. Anyone know?

Practice what you read on family and friends and if you're bold enough...strangers. Good luck.
