Default CS5 and GPU - Upgrade.

So as I understand it CS5 now utilises the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) to a far greater extend taking some of the load of the CPU (Cral Processing Unit).

Sounds good in theory, however, having now installed CS5, one of the first things I've tried is the pixel bender filter. Therein lies the problem.

Trying to use the filter on a full image my system flatly refuses saying the image dimensions exceed the capabilty of the GPU

Currently running an ATI Radeon X700 se (256 memory).

Has anyone else has similar issues and can suggest a card that I can upgrade to that will, without batting the proverbial eyelid, do all that CS5 needs it to do.

I appreciate that I might be running an oldish (4 years old) PC but really only use it for CS5stuff and if I can up the GPU as CS5 puts more load on this then I think that would be my best bet

Maybe there is an option within CS5 that allows you to utilise the CPU instead of trying to farm it out to the GPU?

I did try turning off the GPU option but PS5 kept crashing...

Has any one else found limitations of CS5 plugins from their GPU. I think its because CS5uses OpenGL2

Opted for a GPU upgrade in the end and some more memory for the base unit whilst I was at it

GPU and OpenGL support | Photoshop CS4, CS5

Lots-o troubleshooting steps there, also a compatibility chart.
