Default What wide angle lens do I need for nightclub photography?

hello friends,
I’m a new to photography field, but I also know there are ways to get excellent photo's without spending a grand on a lens.
I’m looking for a lens that would fit on my canon eos, that is good for nightclub photography, like taking a picture of people when there’s not much space. I was thinking of getting on ebay. canon 10-22mm but that’s kind of pricey. Is the sigma 10-22mm good? Or should I be looking at a 14mm?

What lenses and strobe(s) do you currently own?

The 10-22mm is a great wide-angle zoom lens but may not be the best choice in low light situations unless you are using an off-camera flash where you would have more control over the lighting.

I would recommend the Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8 if you use Full Frame. Even if using cropped, it still gives great images. If you are going prime, the EF 24mm f1.4 Mark2 is very very good.

This would be my top pick for a recommended wide-angle lens but it may be cost prohibitive for melodyeye. If this is not the case then the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 may be another good pick especially at the wide-end (assuming you have a crop sensor since you were looking at the 10-22mm).

Well Are you seriously looking for a 10-22mm lens? That's pretty wide. I'd give consideration to the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lenses. It's still pretty wide and less than a grand, and the wide aperture is much better for low light with no flash.

If you really want something that wide, why not try a Tokina 11-16mm, f2.8? New it's US$600. Great lens.

Having shot nightclubs, I can honestly say I've never needed anything wider than my 18-70 for people shots. Only used the UWA for atmosphere shots (ie longer shutter speeds of the entire club)

what/how to you work in the way of flash? On camera flash (not built in flash) pointed at them? Pointe dup with a bounce card? etc

I use an SB unit attached to the camera. Use depends greatly on the location, but generally it's direct through some kind of diffuser (mini soft-box, beauty dish, etc).

Depends on what you are trying to achieve...
Are you looking to use only available light?
