Default any guesses on Earl??

So what are you guys thinking about the coast and Earl? I don't usually keep up with them, so i have NO Idea! All I know is my husband is on the list for the first disaster relief team at his station to go that way if needed... so I am trying to keep up with it. I *think* also we have some who live there on here.. anyone hear anything?

Lot's of folks on alert right now and resources are starting to mobilize...even if only in the first stages. They did start evacuations, especially along the outer areas. There is officially a hurricane warning now.

Where it will go, only God knows. Hopefully it will spare the coast anything substantial.

It's back and forth. As of last night, what heard, because my g/f is glued to the Weather Channel, is that it just may brush the coast here in NC. The other day, they were expecting landfall here, with the eye crossing in a NW fashion about 30mi east of where I live. I haven't heard anything today yet.

they are starting to send people already? man! In the unit my husband is in they will only have a 2 hour notice to get their stuff and go out. My only hope is that my ds is home if he gets sent so he can see him before he goes!

My fault...reword. I'm not sure they are actually sending anyone yet...just a heads-up that something may be coming and to prepare for deployment so folks are checking their equipment, etc.. Same boat as your husband.

All I can say is good luck to all of you and hope not only Earl but the other two forming miss all of us. Estimates of up to $150 million in damages in the Caribbean from Earl are being shown already, so I truly hope it turns out to sea and you east coaters don't have to deal with it.

LOL! There are a few NCarolinians on here! I was just reading that there is a low pressure system moving in from the north that may keep it at bay. No one can really tell. I'm not too sure, but a Cat3 would probably be the worst thing we have seen in these parts since Hugo. I am glad we are about 200mi inland, but when they make landfall, it sure can be rough for us too, with heavy rain and tornado warnings all over the place.

True... but think of all the great cloud formation pics and lightning! maybe even tornados! LOL! ya know, if its going to come anyway...

Our local weather said that it is SUPPOSED to turn, but hasn't started yet? I dunno. Like I said, I don't usually follow them so I don't know how accurate these predictions are! The one SMALL hurricane I was in was on St. George Island when I was young, the evac was not mandatory so we stayed... only to end up stuck when the eye came a lot closer than it was supposed to. By the time we knew the bridge of course was closed.
