Default Interesting local photographer happenings...

News Story Here

So I know the photographer this happened to, Olga. As if having your car nicked isn't enough...

...that said when she posted what had happened, she said she was inside 30 minutes, not 'a couple'... still, makes me glad to be way over cautious when it comes to always having my gear with me or in view when it's not at home.

My wife always moans at me that I won't leave the gear in the car. Even if we're just stopping at a restaurant or somewhere on the way home from a day out where I've been shooting, the full kit goes in with me. Of course, I wouldn't have shots that would be that important but it would still break my heart to lose my gear.

OH my goodness!! That is a terrible thing to happen. I don't for the life of me understand what would make someone think its okay to take something that isn't theirs! I mean it like kindergarden 101, if its not yours ya can't have it!

Ouch! That's gotta sting! When I have my gear with me, it goes where I go! (or, at least, the memory cards do)

That does suck... HUGE
A little note to self - DOWNLOAD all files from cards THE MOMENT the shoot is over- and then back up, and then go and visit people

Agreed. Not to be a jerk, but why in the world hadn't she dumped the cards fully 24 hours after the wedding?

I was helping with a workshop this past May, and the photographer for the president of Venezuela was one of the students. Stopped at Starbucks on the way in, and his 5D2 + lenses, wallet, passport and hotel keys were swiped from the rental car. Turns out the car had manual locks, which he didn't realize. Sucko.

You're not being a jerk. I know the girl and those were amongst my thoughts too. Initially I thought it was a sunday wedding and she had stopped at her friend's place on the way home. Hard to have a great deal of sympathy when I figured out the wedding was the day before. I suppose we all make mistakes though. Also read that she didn't have insurance either, so she's replacing her gear out of pocket - there go her profits from the summer. she does good work however, so I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine in the long run.

Wow, I just started taking pictures again, but not downloading your work for that long seems like a bad habit. I thought everyone did it right after a shoot.

Hopefully it'll be a lesson learned.
