Default Witnessed a couple drive by shootings yesterday.

I was witness to a couple drive by shootings yesterday.

So my brother in law and his wife were in a town about an hour and a half north of us for some conference this weekend. We picked up his wife to show her around Colorado. Did a few tourist things since she'd never been to Colorado before. We were at Garden of th Gods at one of the usual stopping off points for a gorgeous view overlooking the park. I turned around to look at the cars driving by since I've seen the view hundreds of times and this lady drove by with her arm stuck out the window, a camera in her hand taking a picture without stopping. Not sure what type of camera it was. It looked like a point and shoot. I almost wanted to try and stop her to see what kind of picture she got but another car drove by with someone sticking out the back window taking a picture as they were driving.

So it was two drive by shootings in less than 30 seconds. I'm just curious why people would do that since there were plenty of parking spots on the side of the road. They even made a little pull off for people to park right at the gorgeous view. I guess they really didn't care how the picture turned out.

Sorry to disappoint anyone if you were expecting violence in the U.S.

Maybe they were just too lazy to stop and just didn't care how the photo turned out. I know I would stop, but my husband. OMG, when we travel, he is like "We are not stopping. Pee your pants, I don't care. We are not stopping for at least another two hours." LOL. Maybe that was the scenario. I have taken tons of photos out the window because he didn't want to stop.

This is an example of my many drive by shots. I can't post the original photo since I have computer issues, but this digital scrapbook page was already on flickr. This was on our trip to Florida last summer. We were on I 81 somewhere near the VA/NC border. The mountain views were gorgeous, but of course, we didn't stop.

I've done several drivebys. I was doing some courier work and didn't have time to stop for a proper capture. I was using my Kodak P&S on auto. Got a handful of so-so shots out of about two or three hundred or so. I even started a flickr group called "Drive By Shooter." It was fun, and helped to scratch my photography itch while having to drive for 8 hours a day.

My mum does that, and it drives me nuts.

She recently went on a coach tour of Italy, and most of the shots she took of Rome were through the coach window or massively over exposed because she hadn't bothered to check the settings or look back at the shots she had taken to see if they came out before shooting another 30.

I'm in the 'impatient husband' boat. I'm afraid I have had to execute some drive by shots. Although he always says "We can stop if you want to", I can just feel the impatience eminating from him and the kids.
And not only when driving.
Yesterday we were out at a park, and there was a mother Pukeko (its a chicken sized swamp bird, blue and black, red beak - very cool) sitting on her nest just by the path. I have a small collection of underexposed/camera-shakey shots of her because I didn't feel I could make the whole family wait (in the rain) while I sorted myself out for a decent shot. Opportunity lost, but I can't expect them all to wait for my hobby.

Edit - also I was disappointed at the lack of guns and mayhem in this thread...

I've got the impatient husband as well. I've taken hundreds of drive bys. It's about all I can manage a lot of the times.

Ha! I was disppointed that there was no violence too lol! My husband is very impatient too. Mainly on foot. His usual bog standard answer is "looks like I'm looking after the kids as usual while your taking pretty pictures when your done catch us up". This is all said with a slightly scarcastic undertone drives me nuts sometimes.

I bought a photography mag on Saturday and read a really interesting article on how to get top shots while on holiday without causing a family row....
