Default Gotta look pretty for my photo tomorrow

I bought a new outfit yesterday in case I have to get a photo taken tomorrow. Possible mug shot photo for if I get put in jail tomorrow. LOL.
Yeah, funny, but not so funny story. In 1996, apparently I wrote a bad check to Walmart for $60. About the same time, I moved to a different city, changed jobs, changed banks, they were sending notices to my old address. I had the mail forwarded so I have no idea why I never got a notice, but the fact is that I did not know about this for 14 years. They pressed charges and I did not show up to court. Guess what that got me? a warrant for my arrest that I never knew about all this time. Thank goodness I am a good driver and never have gotten pulled over for a traffic violation or they would hauled me to jail on the spot.
So anyways, we found out about this a couple of months ago when we were snooping on the court website, just entering random people's names to see if they had a warrant or any criminal history.
When we found out, I cried for about two days. It was not as simple as going and paying the bad check. I had a warrant, so either had to hire a lawyer to get the warrant recended or go turn myself in, get processed, put in jail and wait to be released by the judge.
So I decided to go with the lawyer. I had to pay him $500 to file some paperwork, but as of right now, the warrant is gone. I have to go to court at 8:30 in the morning to settle the rest of it up.
Hubby says he is coming with me and bringing the camera in case they arrest me and put me in jail. JERK!! LOL!
Yeah, so that is going to be exciting. Not really photography related, I know. But dang....I have some luck, don't I?

I would think so, but the lawyer said the warrant would stay in effect literally forever until they either caught up with me or I took care of it.

Sorry to hear all this hassle but all that for a measly $60 all those years ago Well at least you can get this all cleared up albeit $500 out of pocket. What a bummer.

I feel your pain!

I'd have changed my name, gotten plastic surgery, and left the country before I'd give them one red cent!

Yeah I deleted it because I looked it up and arrest warrants don't expire.

The law is the law though. If you don't want the hassle then don't write cheques for money you don't have.

Oh don't I know it. That was a long time ago when I was a young, poor, single mom.

I got in similar trouble not too long ago.

I was poor and looking for a job so had walked into town for a job interview. It turned out to be a crock, some shady marketing firm who's idea of an interview was exploiting your services for 4 hours. I came away dejected and too tired to walk home I decided to take the metro. I got on without paying, being literally too skint to afford it, and got caught (they literally check tickets once in a blue moon). The fine was £20, but of course I couldn't pay it. I stashed it away and forgot about it, moved to another city for a new job and all was good. That is until bailiffs showed up looking for £300. I never got the reminders because I had moved and so didn't remember till they were knocking on the door with a court order.

This was all for a £1.30 train ticket

I should've just given them a fake name and address like the second time I caught without a ticket, but the first time I was just too naive.

Well, that was extremely painless! I went into the district court building, met my attorney. He said "Come with me." We popped our heads into a room where the prosecuting attorney was meeting with some people. He said "Here, she showed up." We went back into the hallway, hen he said, "He's not going to prosecute. It is a 14 year old case. You can go home."
And I came home. End of story!
