Depends on who I'm photographing or what. Normally I don't say anything to landscapes, but people. You need to flatter them to put them at ease while trying to get the shots. "Nice look", "I like the way your eyes smile".....whatever, something flattering.

I don't say much to people, but I usually have to give landscapes a lot of direction.
Like "move that tree a little to the left there" or "let's get that cloud looking real fluffy!".

I tend to think of ways to improve the whatever im looking at...so if im taking a picture of a castle or historic building i tend to ask the person im with if the building would look good with some lurid coloured paint on or perhaps a banksy added to it....

I think what the OP is trying to ask is if you try to tell a story with your photos?

I personally don't think this way. I see something I like, and I shoot it. If it conveys a message, then that's just gravy!

I am, however, trying to take a more structured approach.
