Default I feel so dumb

I was just going through my google reader and got to the DPS post about photography gear for under $25.
You know what, the thought never entered my mind to spray water on flowers, leaves or whatever for photographs. I'd wake up in the morning and be like "dang, the dew is already gone. Guess I have to try again tomorrow."
Dumb dumb dumb!!

It's a different mindset. I've spent most of my life taking photos of things "as they are". I rarely change the lighting, move things around, etc. (Obviously, I'm not big on photographing people.)

It's not any sort of "purist" thing for me. It's just that I never happen to think in terms of "making" a photograph, just in terms of "taking" one. It's more of a photojournalist way of thinking than an art photographer way of thinking.

Neither way is right nor wrong in its own place. But it's pretty much assured that you'll get better looking photos if you take the time to make the photo instead of just taking what you find.

That's okay. I still get surprised by things every so often, too.

Another trick you can use with waterdrops on flowers is mixing glycerin with the water. It helps the drops stay in place better.

Food photographers use the same water tricks. Spraying a drinking glass on the outside helps it look "cold".
