Smile Layers?

Hi everyone. Can someone help me with layers. Is there a website that i can checkout that will explain layers in simple terms? I have Photoshop Elements 3 and just wanted to have a go but i'm confused with it all. Cheers.

There is a lot you can do with layers, too much to explain here. If you would just google "layers in elements", many will pop up.....

youtube also has a lot of great tutorials.....what i like about a video is that i'm seeing it instead of reading about it.....and i can pause it between steps so that i can duplicate that in photoshop.....

Think of layers as transparent sheets (like those you would lay on a projector).

For example, if I were a teacher trying to show my students some spelling mistakes in a text they submitted, I could take one transparent sheet with the text on it, and then another sheet to draw on with red marker (so I don't permanently alter something on the original text).

This way the students can follow my marking live on the projector, and if I want to do the same for another group, I can throw away my layer with red markings and take a blank sheet again and start over.

You need to learn layers so, google or youtube are great ideas! I've done projects where I've had 200+ layers on one image...
