Default Question Re: Model Mayhem

I really need to find some people to practice with. I have been doing all this research and haven't really been able to put it to practice. So I am looking at that site. There are about 30 models of various experience levels in my area.

My question is, what does "time for print" mean? Does that mean that no money is exchanged, you take the photos, they get some prints?

yep, means you get the model for free and the model gets pics for free for portfolio building.

yes and sometimes it's just tf* or tfCD so they'll get the digital files or something

Thanks! I think I am going to go that route with practicing. My family is sick to death of my camera and I am pretty sick to death of trying to get them to cooperate.

Nicole,
Have you gotten any Model Mayhem models scheduled yet? Well, besides the creepy dude who wanted his privates photographed for posterity. I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I don't like shooting street style strangers... and my family is too busy to take a day shooting with me most weeks.

Soooo, I tried MM. There are 30+ models within 50 miles of me -- all with No Experience or Some Experience. Frankly, I'm not ready to shoot an experienced model as yet. I want to help newer models gain experience, develop their portfolio -- and do the same for myself. If I read your messages correctly, that's what you're after, too.

Anyway, I sent out 20 or so more inquiries yesterday... waiting for replies. The first group of inquiries (5-8) netted nothing more than a few, "I'll have to check my schedule" replies. Hmmm... I am very interested in knowing how your situation is developing.

Charlie
I went through and sorted models by distance. I contacted a bunch of them and asked if they would like to do Time for print/CD shoots. Several replied that they would love to, but they have school and a job and blah blah blah and they needed to check their schedules. Long story short; NO, I have not done any photo shoots with any of these models. I have basically told the girls that I have wide open schedule and to let me know. I don't know what else I can do. If they don't follow through then I sure as heck am not going to harass them about it.

I think a lot of them are pretty flaky, but then again, it all depends on what your online portfolio looks like. They want good images, and are more likely to put forth the effort for someone who can demonstrate a strong portfolio, in those terms its a Catch-22 if you're just starting out... much the same as you're probably more attracted to working with models who are versatile and attractive.

In the absence of having a strong book to attract them, having better defined plans for the shoot and look will help as well, (eg. I'm looking for a set with an industrial look, I have this location picked out and want a model who can bring x-y-z. Looking to produce about 12 strong shots, and estimating it will take about 45 minutes. I'm available on saturday/sunday and want to do it by the end of october. I'm open to ideas that will help you out beyond that).

The closer you can get to sounding like you know what you're doing, the easier it is for them.

I've gotten a grand total of 1 model off MM, and it was because I responded to her casting call and not the other way around. Here's my profile. The model I found on MM is the one with the piercings.

Edit: Forgot to say, add me as a friend!
