Question Online storage

Hello,

I suppose a lot of you have used an online backup service before. I am looking for one too.

What I am looking for is an online 'backup' service, not an online 'sync' service.

What I mean is, I want to be able to backup my data online (just like an external drive) and then forget about it. I could delete all my data here, play around with it, modify it. But the backed up data should remain as is.

I was looking at Mozy and Carbonite mainly, because of their cheap rates and unlimited storage. But both of these 'sync' data. So I have to have the files on my laptop, for the file to be present on their server. If I accidentally delete, modify the file here, it makes the same change there too.

I do have an external drive too, where I backup my documents. But I don't want to fill up my laptop hard disk with all the archives just so Mozy/Carbonite can keep the files on their server.

Mainly I am looking for something with ability to:

1. Backup around 350Gb+ of files/folders (so unlimited storage would be nice to have)
2. Upload/Download fast (I don’t want to wait a month to backup my 350Gb+)
3. Backup all kinds of files (photos, videos, songs, software setup files etc)
4. Use it like a backup (not delete it from server if I delete something on my machine)
5. To be able to restore files or folders (1 or all) on any machine (in case I format my HDD or get a new laptop)
6. Not have to upload everything (all 350Gb+) all over again if I switch hard disks, or change laptops

Please share any knowledge or experience with this you may have.

Thanks

filya

Yeah, I currently use Mozy, and would be interested in switching if someone put up some good suggestions to this post.

So, c'mon folks, help us out.

Both my husband and I upload data to the server on our netfirms account. They host our two websites and have provided a lot of storage with the account. Neither of us use very much of that storage for the content on our websites, so we just upload other stuff there to keep it safe. He stores important work stuff, like his blueprint files, etc, I store my photos and digital scrapbook pages.
While it is not a typical solution that may be available for everyone, it does work for us and costs about $100, maybe $125 a year.

I would love to hear what other people do as well.

Thank you for your reply Nicole.

I do not mind paying upto $100/yr for safekeeping my files. But could you provide more details (if possible) about how much storage is allowed? And if it satisfies the points I mentioned in my opening post?

Thanks again,

filya

Right now we have *I think* 250 gigs of storage, but that can be upgraded.

Default SOS Online Backup

Although I think SOS Online Backup is a good product, if you are backing up such a large amount of data, I would not just sign up to any account. What I mean is, contact the firm via email and explain your needs and situation before you back up a single file. Let them understand what you are doing.
Thanks.

Thank you for that link odbinfo. I am a little hesitant backing up my data with an unheard of provider.

Thanks though.

Sorry to bump this up, but I am sure someone out here uses one of these big backup/storage providers.
