Default Would you be offended if....?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site, and relatively new to photography, had a question

Ok, so I have a friend (more like an acquaintence) who was attending an event that II participated in. She is also into photography, and some of her work is pretty good, however, while at this event she took a picture of me. It was a candid, I was completely unaware it was taken until I saw it on facebook. The picture is REALLY up close (my face) and I just hate it, it's probably the worst photo of me I've ever seen. She's focused in on my nose, and the rest of my face has a slight blur. Because I was unaware the photo was being taken, I was in the middle of saying something and my mouth is crooked. I'm squinting (out in the sun) and one of my eyes is almost closed. I'm kinda leaning my head back so it makes my neck look wide. Then she has it done it black and white, and my lips are over exposed so it looks like they are white...

Anyways, it kinda makes me ill that this is on her facebook for all my other friends to see. I'm completely aware that she had a right to take the picture as I was in public or whatever...but I don't know, I just hate the pic so much. I really want to take it down but I'm afraid she would be offended if I asked her to take it down. Would you be offended? Do I have any rights in that at all?

Thanks

Just ask her...you can't make her take it down I don't think but the worst that can happen is she says no

if she's a good photographer she wouldnt put a half-talking, half-blinking photo up anyway.

ask her to take it down, if she's your friend i'm sure she will understand.
BUT, remember.. she has every right to post it, so unless she's actually posting something defamatory, theres nothing you can really do.

if she's your friend i'm sure she will understand.

Ask her if she wants others to think this pic is how she wants others to judge her photography? Maybe offer to pose for her. Perhaps something you both like will emerge from it.

Take a dozen really crappy pictures of her and post them on your page. I'm sure that will make way for some negotiation.

Just ask for her to take it down or you could de-tag it.

Facebook's T&Cs state that you have to have the permission of each person in any photos you upload, if you want to take her down that route...

You say "For all your other friends to see".

They're your friends, what on earth are you worried about? If they're truely your friends, then they know you and who you are. Do you think one candid photo of you is suddenly going to change their minds about who you are?

Your friends probably had a good chuckle and moved on from it. You going to tell me you've never ever seen a candid of any of your friends? Did it make you feel any differently about them?

Don't mean to be blunt or insensitive, but come one....it's a picture.

Also, and this is not directed at you, but just in general, I think people get way too wrapped up in self image. Do you realize how many times a day you are photographed and unaware of it? There are more security cameras in places you'd never think, that are constantly snapping photos. Those pics may not end up on facebook, but you can be sure they're stored somewhere and viewed by lots of strangers. Definitely not worth getting worked up over.

If you hate the photo and she is your friend you have as a friend the right to ask her to delete it and she shouldn't be offended by it. You're allowed to do that. In cases like that I find it helpful to get feedback. You can tell her that you think that she's a good photographer but you just don't like the way you look in that photo. What you said in your post seems very reasonable.
