There's a free license generator on the PLUS site that allow users to "generate" an xmp file in order to add rights information into the headers of their image files. Another free tool on the PLUS site, the PLUS Media Selector, creates a Media Summary Code
designed to allow both people and applications to read licenses in any language. If you decode a license there, it will display in a format that may be copied/pasted. However, the PLUS Registry (in development now) will allow exports of text for use in documents and other applications. In drafting licenses for use in documents and communications with clients, I recommend that you avoid the use of paragraphs and instead provide the information a clear and succinct list. This has been among the top requests of the art producers, designers, publishers and other clients participating in PLUS around the world. While many applications have stuck with the 80s method of composing rights licenses in a free-text paragraph, this can easily lead to misinterpretations and unintentional infringement, and is one of several reasons that clients demand work for hire or unlimited rights. You will protect your client relationships and do your clients a great service by moving to a simple, straightforward list. The standardized set of license parameters developed jointly by the organizations representing ad agencies, design firms, photographers, illustrators, publishers stock agencies and reps are: --- Media: Placement: Versions: Size: Quantity: Duration: Regions: Languages: Industries: Exclusivity: --- If your licenses don't consider or limit certain of the above parameters, you can simply state "any" or "all" or whatever you please. In addition to the above, you should specify the number of images, the start date for the license, the end date, and any additional constraints or obligations. For terms and conditions associated with a license, look to your trade association's forms. Here's the PLUS homepage. :: PLUS ::
