Check out Lens Lenders. Borrow Lenses recommends them for exclusive Canadian service, and I've had great experiences with Borrow Lenses.

If you only have point and shoot experience, I wouldn't recommend renting a high tech dSLR camera. You will likely end up with no pictures at all. Just because the camera is bigger and more expensive doesn't mean you will be able to take great pictures with it. There is a lot to learn with dSLRs that you won't be able to learn if renting it for a week. Using auto mode will give you similar results to a point and shoot anyway. If you already know what you are doing and just want to rent a better body, then it could be good idea. Just don't think that renting a nice camera will give you awesome pictures, that is why photographers are photographers.

i am a point and shoot user, but have been reading about and learning about DSLRs and photography, and have used lower end models such as those two. the only reason im using a point and shoot is because i dont have the money to but a dslr

Where in Canada?

Vistek rents out equipment, though I dont know about the D5000/D90 bodies. If you're in Ontario, Henry's is partnered with Headshots Rentals (out of Toronto) and they can ship anything to a nearby Henry's store.
