Default Suggestions for new forum

I'm wondering if a new forum can be created. I am really new to this site and photography in general. I think it would be helpful to have a group dedicated to the people who are really new and trying to get their feet wet. I also think it would be nice to see "intermediate" and "advanced" groups as well. While it is nice to see all of the amazing photos, it would also be nice to see some beginner photos as well. And, I am sure, for those of you who are advanced, would like to weed out the "newbie" photos.

This is all really coming about from a comment I saw in the Animals/Wildlife Critique forum which was quite rude and really didn't offer any help to the person who posted the pic. In a nutshell, the commenter was upset because the picture was more of a "snapshot" than anything and that the quality of the pics posted has gone down. So, to solve this problem I thought it might be helpful if there was a specific forum dedicated to the beginners of the group so those advanced people don't have to waste their time looking at "snapshots" if they don't want to.

Just a thought....

I think that you bring up a good point but I'm also unsure that the bulk of the membership feel the same way as the commenter you mention. There are tons of people on this forum who are very helpful and give critique in a way that's respectful and meant to really assist people. As you continue to get to know the forum and users I think that you will find the same thing.

There was a really good suggestion here. It involves having a section where people could submit images, take suggestions from a small group of more experienced photographers and then resubmit with changes. I think that may be a good answer to your concerns. If you're interested, just comment and give the thread a 'bump' and maybe there will be even more interest and a new section.

I saw the comment and agree it was rude and totally unwarranted. Dont let that bother you. Most of the folks here are very helpful and very friendly
As far as new sections being created, I'm not sure how that would fly as there are sooo many all ready. It is food for thought tho

Yes, I agree - there are a lot of forums already! I think I was just really disappointed with that critique and it made me not want to post any of my pics for fear of getting a response like that. I know one has to be thick skinned and prepared to hear things they may not want to about their work, but that post required a full metal jacket!
Anyway, I went back to the picture and I appreciate that you got things back on track and provided some real honest advice on how to make it better!

Thank you!!!

Sam

Well, I didn't see the comment, but in general one has to learn to take the good, bad and crazy on the net.

The comment and any discussion after it probably should have been left in place as an example of what is / isn't considered appropriate in the critique section.

Personally, I think the critique section here is too soft in general. I'd prefer all the "ohhhh great shot" posts be made in SYS. That said, there are ways to critique a bad image without being a jerk too.

A forum I once moderated at had two different critique sections. One was called "eager to learn" and the other was "critique." One was gentler than the other, but both were honest.

I totally agree. The few times I've posted in the Critique section, they were images that I knew could be better. I found that more people would comment on the images that they thought were already good rather than sharing the wealth. I like the idea of the two critique sections. Since, as mentioned above, there are so many sections already it could be something that people could add to their thread titles? Just a thought.

Seconded. While there are ways of being tactful and still getting a point across, nobody can learn if you dont actually tell them what's wrong.

This has been bugging me for a while. Why is your camera lens flashing at me?
