Default Group upgrade question

Upon the release of CS5, I also moved from using Aperture 2 to Lightroom 2. Now I'm considering moving up to LR3, but from what I've read the transition is either smooth or a nightmare. After the whole Aperture to LR move I don't want another major amount of work to upgrade LR.
What is your experience going from LR2 to LR3? Easy, nightmare or somewhere in between.

Well, I might be at a little advantage here as I've been certified through Adobe for years but, going from LR2 to LR3 isn't all that bad. The controls are basically the same. There's a few added features but, if you were used to LR2 then you shouldn't have any issues. And, if you do, we're here to help.

Thanks for the reply, it was just difficult moving from Aperture to LR and at first I really felt I'd made a mistake. Now I've become used to LR and want to upgrade, LR 3 was released about a week after I loaded LR 2 and I've been reluctant to change it. But, since this is the first time I've had a chance to work on computers in a while I doing major upgrades. Moving to Win 7 on one computer and will try the LR upgrade on the Mac and hopefully it'll go fast.

For me the upgrade is was very smooth. The only thing is that it can be a bit slow on an 8 year old PC (I think it is time for an upgrade!)

I had zero issues. I had LR2, downloaded the trial of LR3, like it then purchased it and put in the code. easy cheesy lemon squeezy. LR2 is still installed on my machine but all the folders, presets, ratings, edits ect all came over without me doing a thing.

I'm glad to see this from people I at least know from this forum. The horror stories I've read made me reluctant to upgrade, but one never knows the person doing the work. Okay, the rain has stopped and it's prime time so while downloads are going on I'm off to shoot. Real work has been interfering with my play time recently, dang it. Will check in later.

Another one with absolutely no issues. I had no problems upgrading my LR2 catalog to the LR3 Beta, and then from the Beta to the trial of LR 3 and then trial to full... and never a problem.

As a previous LR2 user, I couldn't even imagine not upgrading to LR3, I think it has a lot of improvements (subtle and obvious)

The upgrade to LR3 was easy. However, there are some serious speed issues with it.

Check out Terry White's tech blog for a post on the issue.

I had no issues at all. Installed program, opened a catalog and updated it for LR3 and it was good to go.

Glad to see no one is having major issues. Jim, the speed issue bothers me enough that I'll do some more research prior to making the jump to LR3. I've normally keep up with the blog you recommended but I must have missed that post so I'll re-visit and look for it.
Thanks all.
The Windows upgrade has been smooth as silk, so far anyway.
I'll see how the Mac and Adobe goes once I check out the speed issues.
