Default Carded? *totally NPR*

warning... this is not photography related, hence the "general discussion" part... so if that offends you stop reading now.. LOL!

So... my husband and I were at walmart yesterday, and he had a 6 pack of beer and a few odds and ends to pay for. We had our youngest child with us (7mo) and we are both 29... The guy at the counter asked for his ID which is normal, THEN asks for MY ID?! Is that normal?? LOL! Because I happened to be with him at the store, I got carded? Now I had nothing to do with the purchase, just standing there with the baby while dh checked out... I thought it was so funny! I am used to it, I get carded everywhere I go, my dh on the other hand is 6'1 300lbs and a shaved head. He never gets carded! ha! Anyway.. he looked at the guy like he was nuts and said "REALLY? Do I look under 21?" kinda giving him a hard time, and the guys says, "no but she does"... So anyway, seeing as I just celebrated my 29th Birthday and was thinking about how this is my last year as a twenty-something, it made my day! haha! A friend of mine who is 32 didn't get carded the other day when we went out and she was so sad! LOL! So anyway.. totally not photography related, and a bit of a silly story but funny! I didn't know they would card you just for being with someone in a store like walmart.. and funny how us women are about getting carded making or breaking our day.. LOL

It's common I've had this happen to my friends that were with me many times don't take it personally they are doing their job. As long as your in your 20's or early 30's I think it's fair to get carded all the time. Technically they can card you if your 90 so there.

Here in Indiana, its state law to card EVERYONE... doesn't matter if your are 21 or 91. Better have your ID. I don't think they require to card anyone else. Personally, I would have asked to talk to the manager on duty. Especially if the cashier was a guy wanting to see my wife/gf's information.

It's perfectly normal. Like someone else noted, some states card everyone. Some places will not sell alcohol at all if a minor is with you. Around here, it's CYA, because too many people have been busted for selling alcohol and cigarettes to under age folks.

On a side note. I haven't seen the inside of a Wal Mart in almost three years. Kind of a personal protest. It all but killed our town. There is a resurgence in our down town economy now, which I am glad to see, but it took several years for it to happen. Alcohol sales helped too. We were dry up until two years ago.

Well Allison, looking at your avatar, I would have carded you too.

But seriously, I saw the photo you posted in the duck face thread, I never would have guessed that you're 29!

Well I sometimes get what you could call "reverse carded". Our Kroger stores offer free coffee for Seniors (over 55). My husband gets his coffee, no questions asked, but I have to prove I'm old enough to qualify! Considering the fact that I'm 61, (and 7 months older than my husband), I just love the Deli people in this Kroger store!

That's true. When I went back home (Indiana) we stopped at a beer joint and I got carded. I do not look old (maybe a grey hair here and there ) so, it didn't bother me much. But, when I went to a store where the guy knew me, I was like; "Dude, WTF?! You KNOW me!"

That's when I found out that EVERYONE gets carded no matter what...

Normal here. If I go into a liquor store with a friend of mine and that friend is with me at the cash, we'll both get carded even though the legal age here is 19 and we're both 22. It's to stop people from going in with a friend that is of-age while they are not and having them buy the booze for them.

Here in NJ there are stores that will not sell to you if ANYONE in your party is under 21, so because you had the baby with you they would not sell to you.
