Question Total Beginner

Hello Everyone

I am new here at DPS and to photography in general. I have been interested in photography for quite some time, but didn’t really get into it until very recently. Whether I am out with friends, on group vacations or attending family functions, I am usually the “go-to camera guy”. I suppose that doesn’t say much for me, but I enjoy taking pictures as a hobby (photographs for all of you semi-pro/professional photographers).

I have gained a wealth of knowledge for this forum. I have started to actually learn all that I can about photography. I’ve been practicing with my camera, reading Understanding Exposure (reading it for the second time) and checking this forum regularly. I even picked up Understanding Photography Field Guide. What can I say? I like Bryan Peterson’s writing style. I’m also looking into taking a photography class or two.

The pictures/photographs on here are absolutely amazing! I have tons…and tons of questions. I guess my overall question is:

Am I on the right track? Any advice, tips and/or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome,

You're on the right track already, particularly with this site as there is a wealth of information here to pick through. I am pretty new myself so can't really offer too much practical advise other than to practise and enjoy. It is always worth posting pictures in the critiques section on here to get advise as to how a shot might be improved and of course you can always ask specific questions on things that you're not sure of (remember to do a search 1st as there is always a chance the subject might have already been covered).

Good luck.

I totally agree, this forum is fantastic. I hardly ever post because I'm too busy reading.

Are you on the right track? Yes you are... I have learned so much from this site I'm speechless about it. I actually feel like one of the guys that beginners get info from. You are on the right track. Continue to read from this forum and also continue to practice. Any questions you have ask on this forum or you can directly email me or call... I love photography and I am always willing to talk about the craft that I love.
