Photographing the Sun

OK so I saw a photo the other day that some scientist using some new telescope had done of a photo of the sun and it got me thinking........
So I started checking into taking some shots of the sun.......Have never seen anyone do it before.
I found one place and read that you can use a No. 12 welding shield to shoot thru and photo the sun without harm to your camera...... off to work I go rummaging through the supply trailer and what do I find but a brand spanking new #12 welders shield.

I am now going outside to try this.....

Look for shots later today or maybe by tomorrow.

And hopefully you won't see my rummaging thru the gear for sale section looking for a new camera LOL

I attempted to get a shot of a solar eclipse a couple of years back. This was with a P&S - all I had at the time. I used the lens from hubby's welding goggles. I ended up with a little green comma-shaped blob picture. But it didn't damage the camera at all.
