Hi all it has been a while since I posted . I sure need help.... this is my delem .....
I just got a new Mac ...... and the person who was to support me until I got the hang of it is on vacation . mean while I have an Art Gallery show to get ready for and this computer appears to not have been blessed with a file converter ....... or I can't find it. I shoot in RAW and convert to Tiff in Elements 8 and try to do a save a copy as jpeg ( for printing ) but the file comes up as jpg and no one can open it ,including my printers ........ What to do ???? is there an easy fix that one of you computer people know ???? I suck at computers

You might be able to find a file convertor online try google. use Canon RAW file convertor or
Nikon RAW file convertor in the search...or for whatever camera manufacture you use.

it's not the extension (.jpg)..

I'm guessing it's an issue with Elements.
Try opening the Tiff in preview (it's the default action for images, double clicking the tiff should work) then do a "save as" and convert to jpeg. If this works It's almost the encoding Elements is doing.

jpeg and jpg are the same thing. MS-DOS used to use 3 bit extensions for their file names, like jpg, doc, exe and stuff. They now accept 4 as well, like .blob or whatever you want to call your own filetype. So, jpg and jpeg are both acceptable. Windows uses the file extension, like exe, to determine what a file should open with and look like. Mac's use the information embedded in the file, rather than their name, to determine how to "process" and display a file.

I expect that you have some sort of file corruption going on if no one, including you can open the file. Make sure you have it in 8 bit, and are saving as jpg/jpeg and not doing some other strange method for saving the file. Try moving the file onto a windows machine and see if it works. Try moving the RAW file to another machine and resave it.
