I have a few questions about my CF Card. It is a 4gb Sandisk Extreme III that I use in my Canon 30D.
When I download the pictures from the card, I see three folders, 100CANON, 999CANON, and 998CANON. I am assuming that once I take so many pictures the card starts a new folder? I also have noticed when I start my camera up, I get a message on the LCD Screen that says "File Folder Full". All of my pictures are numbered IMG_0001 and then 0002, 0003, etc. The issue is when I import the photos into an exsisting folder I have on my harddrive, I get the message that states that I already have photos numbered with the same numbers. What is causing this and how can I fix it? Thank you and sorry for the long post. |

The "File Folder Full" issue I had once, and it actually corrupted the CF card.. the thing I didn't do (stupidly) is not format the CF card IN your camera before using it. Try that and see if you keep getting the message.
As for file numbering, there should be a function/setting on your camera that tells the camera to either start numbering again, or to continue the numbering from the last one.. I'd set it on continuous so that you'll only have that prob once you pass 9999 photos. Also, this tells me you're dumping all your images in the same folder.. right? If I'm right, I highly suggest against it. It's much more difficult to find files later. Everytime I move photos from my cards, I create a new folder with the date and name such at 100804_beach_photos so that when you're in your overall folder you can "sort by name" and all the folders are sorted by date.. makes finding images later much easier... |

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I re-formated card and the error message "File Folder Full" went away. I checked the numbering and it is set to continuous. This card is probably 2-3 years old so maybe I should just get a new one. I put all my pictures in different folders and each folder is named for the specific event. The problem is that I have taken so many pictures I am getting repeat numbers within the same folders at times. |

My typical organization scheme is to do it by location, then by date. That way, if numbers start overlap, there's no problem because they're all done by different dates
