What a buffoon I am!
Went out last night to take firework photos. All ready to go with camera, charged batteries, memory card, cable release, tripod and when I got the beach to set up I realized that I left the little tripod mounty thingy screwed into the canon 550d (which I left at home) and not the 40d I had with me. Arrrrrggghh! I was really pissed off!! I would have taken some great photos too with the people in the foreground in silouette and the fireworks looking amazing!! Oh well it's the little attention to details that I am still learning!!

You couldn't find anything to rest the camera on? Hell, duct tape it to the tripod if you have to!

haha! Sounds like what I did on the 4th - I was using a tripod that I borrowed from my father-in-law. It doesn't have a quick release because it's a much older video camera tripod but what I didn't realize before I left was that I couldn't rotate the camera to portrait or angle the camera up...I was a little frustrated since I had my 2-year-old with me and a hubby that wasn't so keen on letting me focus on holding the camera instead of running after our daughter.

What kind of tripod do you have?
Most all the ones I've ever had, if you take the head off, you can screw the camera right on it, just like a monopod.

I have mounting plates on both my cameras now, and a spare just in case
I tend to use 2 different sized bags depending on how much I want to lug round. I usually have duplicate accessories (cleaning cloths etc) in each bag, having too often left one or more accessories at home.
