Thank you everyone for your replies and your interest!

So here comes the end of the story:

Called Olympus Technical Service and explained them the situation. They assured over the phone that they wouldn't be able to recover my pictures, but they requested me to send my memory card with my camera, so they could "evaluate the damage" and maybe provide a new one.

Did that. Sent them the camera with the damaged memory card in it.

After 2 weeks, I got the camera(*) with NO memory card. Called them and asked them where my memory card was. They said they had no idea (and they still don't).

(*) The camera had not even been replaced by a new one. They just replaced one of the internal boards. I still wonder how that will help to avoid the memory card/battery compartment from getting wet again!! :-o

Conclusion: If you want to get an underwater camera which is not underwater, screw the pictures from your trip and loose your memory card in a technical service (so that you don't even have the chance to recover your pictures even by paying extra money), then Olympus is your brand. My customer experience couldn't have been any worse.

I guess I learnt the lesson and know now whom I can't trust anymore.

Thanks again and good luck with your pics and travels!

PS: @Woody: I don't think it was my fault for not using caution to backup my images. When I travel with my bike, I just don't want to carry a laptop nor HD nor any other device to backup my images. Any extra weight is not desired, so I'm just careful to keep the pics in my camera and not loose it. But of course one doesn't think that the camera will -all of a sudden- screw all the pics from the memory card...
