Hey everyone! I am going on a cruise in a couple of weeks and was wondering if it was a bad idea to take either my D90 or D300s with me? I wasn't sure if the salt air and the sand from the beaches would be over bad for them? I am usually really careful when I go to the beach but I just wasn't sure about being around salt air for a whole week? I just got the D300s so I thought it would be better to take the D90? Or do you think I should just take a point and shoot and call it a day?
Thank for your input! |

what you take depends on how serious you want to get on a cruise ship about photography.
I dont see a problem provided the boat doesnt sink.... ![]() if you're really worried, take the D300s because its more sealed to the environment and avoid lens changes. dunno.... i'm going on vacation in a few weeks and i'm taking my D300s + 18-135 only ....its in a horribe corrosion zone thanks to volcanic activity.. but hey thats life. chances are i'll replace the camera before any problems start to show anyhow.

Thanks, I just wasn't sure if all the salt air would do anything to it or not. I am used to lugging it around so that wouldn't bother me. I will probably take a point and shoot for times when I don't want to be bothered with it.

Cruises rock!
Where are you going, and who with?I've been on a couple, and I always take as much appropriate gear as I can get away with, so I don't miss out on something. Last time, I was sailing from the UK, so I didn't have to worry about luggage limits - I took pretty much everything that wasn't studio-bound, including a laptop to process each day's images, and a spare body! I'm doing China and South East Asia in October though, and I'm going to be very much more restricted on what I can take - I'm thinking one body, a couple of lenses, a flash, and some spare batteries & charger. Oh, and a boatload of memory cards!

Wow! Unfortunately I am not able to do a cruise like that! I am going to St. Maartin, St. Thomas (both in the Caribbean) and the Bahamas. We are going on Royal Caribbean for a week. I am so excited, I have been on a couple before but both were only for a few days this will be the first week one. We are driving to the port so I will be able to take anything I want as well, no limits like if you fly. I would do anything to do China and South East Asia with you in October, that should be wonderful. I am so excited just to get away and relax.

Funny, I just got back from a five day long cruise to the Bahamas aboard the Monarch of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)! Where are you departing from and aboard which ship?
I am so glad I took my DSLR with me. I also brought my P&S to take with me where I didn't want to carry the DSLR. I took the P&S parasailing and got some neat shots that way. I definitely say bring a DSLR, but also bring a P&S.
