Default New member and new to photography! Please help!

I have always loved taking pictures, but I am just now paying attention to the way my photos look. PLEASE visit my profile and look at the pictures in my album and provide me with some feedback. I have posted one of these pictures along with this thread as well. All of these pictures were taken with a Cannon point and shoot on whatever setting the program mode was on at the time. I am in the process of learning much more about photography and hope to become somewhat decent at it.

Thanks!!!
Kathryn

Hi and welcome to the forum!

There is so much information available right here at the forums, I would recommend reading as many stickies and posts as possible. Once you've soaken up all the info your brain can handle im pretty sure anyone here myself included would be more than happy to help you out.

As for the image, for a first attempt ? it's not bad, composition wise its a bit busy. Usually a photographer will try to catch a moment that grabs your attention and makes you really think what message was behind it. I suggest to try the assignments in this forum they will help you out to get a feel for composition and lighting. Also do not be afraid to look at other people's work to find inspiration! we all started somewhere!!

Welcome again,

Cypher

Hi Kathryn and welcome,
I visited your profile as you requested and you have some nice shots there. As Cypher says, there is tons of material here on DPS to read and learn from so I am sure that will help you towards your gaol to be a better photographer. I agree with him also regarding the picture posted being a bit busy, check out the tips on composition which I am sure will help with this shot and some of the others in your profile. I look forward to seeing some more of your pictures as you post them.

PS. I noticed that you like hunting ducks amongst other things, I hope you weren't taking pictures of the chicks in the carpark before shooting them

Thanks so much for your responses. I am in the process of learning about photography and appreciate the help from experienced photographers that take great pictures! Thanks again!

P.S. Henry - I almost love photographing ducks more than hunting them. They are such beautiful creatures!
