Default Schools out for summer - the end of an era

This is bittersweet. My son has finished his Primary education and in September is off to senior school. SENIOR SCHOOL!! It doesn't seem 2 seconds ago he was only just 4 fresh out of nappies starting his first day in Year R and now he is off to the big fish.

I wrote a lovely hand-written letter to his Head Teacher thanking him for the last 7 years and that I'm sure Dominic will achieve great things and will achieve his ultimate potential. I read the letter out to my husband last night and even he shed a tear,

When do people write hand-written letters anymore? Its all e-mail, text or phone these days.

My daughter too has now finished Infant School is off to Juniors in September.

Life just passes by way to quickly! Stop the bus I want to get off!

Give it a few more seconds and he'll be testing for his A levels. Then you can panic.

The last of my 5 kids finished high school this past June.

I have 2 granddaughters, one of whom is going into grade 4 this fall.

I'm glad mine are all done school, makes easing from semi-retirement into full-retirement much easier.

I know what you mean about time passing too quickly. It seems like just yesterday I was bringing her home as a newborn. And now, she will be getting married in a few weeks. Everybody tells you to enjoy the time with your children because it goes by so fast. I don't think you realize just how fast until you hit the major landmarks -- first day of school, moving on to high school, proms, graduation, marriage, grandchildren, etc. With every landmark event, you ask "Where has the time gone?"

I have a friend who is only a couple of years older than me and she has grandchildren the same age as my kids! The difference is she had her first child at 17 and I was 30 when I had my first.

I cannot imagine being called Granny. It will happen one day

Yup Rachel - it goes far too quick... It only seems like yesterday I was changing nappies on this lot of urchins! They will all eventually be taller than me, in fact, two might be already and the youngest who is 12 is catching up fast!

Enjoy every minute you can. And be warned, once they start seniors, they won't be your little boy for long!

A - Week 25
