Default City to Surf Fun Run (14km of torture.)

Some times you make decisions in life that may be life changing.

I don’t mean growing a bit of fuzz on your top lip for a month (Movember), wearing a pair of jeans to work(Jeans for Genes day) or even having something to eat at 10am (Big Morning Tea), woo hoo. Not even having an embarrassing haircut and having to wear a beanie for a week or two is life changing (Big Shave), except to lose your self respect and be humiliated.

What about getting up at 5.30am during winter, running around for an hour or so a few times a week, loosing 7kilos and then running in the City to Surf? Is this life changing enough.

The City tro Surf is a 14km fun run from downtown Sydney to the Iconic Bondi Beach.

On the 8th August you can wager on the success of my adventure. If I make it I’ll be chuffed and you will be proud of me. If not you can smirk and at best look at me as someone who gave it a go. Worst? Well that’s up to you.

Anyway you can encourage me by kicking the tin for the Salvos. You can do it here: Everyday Hero: The 2010 Sun-Herald City2Surf, presented by Westpac

As a warm up, I’m running the Sutherland to Surf next Sunday. An 11 km trot from the Sutherland Entertainment Centre to Wanda Surf Club. I’ll keep you advised of the result.

The Salvation Army is a good cause, they are there when needed and unfortunately were a bit light this year on their Winter Appeal. Help where you can.

Regards,

John Wood

Buy the way, 8th August is my birthday, I'll be at an age where, will you still need me or will you still feed me. Well will you?

Nothing compared to this: Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man

Good luck though, sounds like a good cause and great personal challenge.

I thought from the title that you'd have to run then surf around a bit, a bit like a triathlon but without the biking and surfing instead of swimming.

Thumbs up

Hi mate,

I am from Australia myself originally but am now in the Netherlands until my girlfriend gets her visa for Aussie sorted. Good to see you are doing something like this mate, very inspiring. I would have joined you if it weren't for my shin splints still healing. Btw is that avatar from Cronulla Sharks ? I personally know the parents of Paul Gallen, they are really nice people. Well good luck in your endeavours.

My Shins are quivering at the very thought, as is my overly large girth I have aquired from eating too much good food last winter

Hello Mate as well.

Yes I'm a Sharkie tragic. Cronulla is not travelling to well this year, but fortunately won't get the wodden spoon.

Thanks for your sentiments, after 40 years of smoking a pack a day and the last twenty years sitting behind a computer or the wheel of a car, I thought I might try ro get fit.

I'll let you know how I go on Sunday.

Cheers,

John W

Default I'm doing this to play better Golf

Just a further update to my adventure. You can see how happy I am about this.

Today I ran in the Sutherland to Surf, an 11 km run from Sutherland to Wanda Beach near Cronulla NSW. Google Maps

This is my warm up for the City to Surf in two weeks. I'm happy just to finish, let alone a 1hr 22m time.

Don't forget: Everyday Hero: The 2010 Sun-Herald City2Surf, presented by Westpac

I wish I had my camera as I watched over 6 thousand runners and walkers spread out in front and behind me.

Some event photos will be available next week and I'll see if its OK to upload.

Cheers,

John W

Default City to Surf

Well Folks, I did it. Last Sunday I ran the 14km from Sydney to the beach at Bondi. A trek that many would know is both very sceinic and hilly.

Many people helped me raise $747 for the Salvation Army. If you want to contribute you can log on as below:

Everyday Hero: The 2010 Sun-Herald City2Surf, presented by Westpac

or you can see how I went below:

Cheers,

John W
