Default Newbie!

I am a total newbie. i love this site because i'm learning alot.. but I feel like theres so much left for me to figure out that i just can't grasp.

I'm also having a little trouble figuring out how to get the XIF data to be able to upload photos to be critiqued.. so any photos in my album on my profile, comments good or bad are appreciated!!

i am no where close to calling myself a photographer, YET. but this is a long time passion of mine and i'm dedicating myself to learning. any and all input is so helpful to me!

thanks everyone

Welcome. Take your time. Dont try to learn it all at once. Decide what aspect of photography you want to learn first. Get familiar with it, get good at it and then move on to the next subject.

Welcome to yet another fellow D5000 user. We are slowly taking over, bwahahah!

A tip for you re. your EXIF data. If you're using Windows you can simply right click your image, click Properties, click the Summary tab and then hit Advanced, et voilá, your EXIF data in all its glory.

If you're using a Mac you probably have iPhoto in which case click a photo, click Photos, then click Show Extended Photo Info.

Or of course you can bring up the photo on your D5000 and hit down a couple of times on the control pad and your EXIF and a histogram is displayed. Hope that helps!

Welcome, you've picked the right place to come. There is so much info here in the tips and tutorials or being written everyday by the posters on the forums you can't fail to learn.
As Windrider86 said, take your time. You can't learn everything over night so take it easy and enjoy the process stage by stage.

Default How to use this lens

Folks,
I'm so thrilled that I just got a my 60mm f/2.8 macro usm lens from my husband. It seems like I have difficulties using this lens. Can anyone give me some information how to use this lens effectively, please? Or, where do I get information about using this lens? Thank you all!

Attached is the photo I took with this lens without any editing. I don't understand why only a small spot is sharp but the rest is kind of blurry.

That is called DoF, short for Depth of Field. You get a nice shallow depth of field with an aperture of 2.8.
Try reading this, and more specifically (dealing with Aperture), this.

Welcome!

To get EXIF info from your photos, the best way and easiest is to -
Upload your photos to Flickr, than click on the photo, look on right side for "more properties" click that

THANKS EVERYONE!! Jim - I read a few of your posts yesterday, you seem very knowledgable!

I like mostly portrait photography and thats going to be my first goal to accomplish. I think I finally understand ISO's, but still trying to figure out aperature, especially trying to figure out how to do it manual instead of having the camera just decide what it is for me.
