I've been taking pictures for a few occasions. There are some good pictures that I would like to publish them on the website such as Flickr for my own portfolio, not sale neither any other purposes.
Is it ok to just post them without asking the "subject" (people) in the picture? ![]() I observed that, many people posted many wedding pictures they've taken... I am just wondering if they've got permission from everyone in the picture? ![]() I am in Australia. Appreciate if anyone could point me to where I can get a good and accurate information about it. Thanks!

Where were the photos taken from? Where were you standing at the time?

If it's a private thing, you'll need a release. As far as AU, I'm not sure but, there should be some online law site that could help...

I think I've found where I should be standing.
Noticed that, the photographers should have agreements, terms and conditions with clients. That is, clients should allow them to use selected images for publication/exhibition or even commercial/competition. I don't see any legal statement that automatically allow photographer to publish image of a person without consent, unless in a public area and indirectly captured. |

Arts Law Australia has information about Street photography and photos of people on private places as well:
Legal Information : Street Photographers Rights Basically if you have permission from the land owner then you can take photos, it's the use of them afterwards that can get you into trouble. From your description of what you intend to do with them you should be fine. This guy is from NSW but you will find the same or similar laws across Oz: 4020 Φ NSW Photographer's Rights

In Australia if you are photographing a private function and you have permission from the owner, organiser etc, then you own the copyright tro those photos and you can use however you wish. Likewise in a public place you can photo whoever and what ever you wish except for obvious things like up ladies dresses or peeping tom photos. In Australia you only need a model release if you are going to sell photos of a model for commercial gain. See article on NSW law in this forum. Cheers, John W
