Default New Posts Help please!

I don't know if there is any solution to this but if there is I'm sure someone out there knows how to help me!

I like to use the New Posts to browse through & find the threads I'm interested in. The problem is that this can often take quite a while (especially if there are interruptions such as putting my son to bed etc.) and I often find before I have gone through very many pages I get some sort of time-out message that says:

'Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.'

Just wondering if there is any way for me to prevent this as it's quite frustrating. I'm sure it's either something really obvious & simple or else it's so complicated I would never think of it.

Can anyone help?

are you "re-clicking" the new post button when you come back? I have found that if I click "New Posts" and it returns 11 pages, i need to go though the 11 pages first before reclicking otherwise it thinks i have seen all 11 pages. It only does that after I have had the window open for a while, if i click on new posts then click on it again right away, it doesn't think i've seen all the pages.
I do not know if that is how it should work... but that is how it does for me.

Thanks for the reply. No I'm not re-clicking new posts.
My problem is that I may not get through all the pages - so I haven't yet read them. If I re-click new posts it re-does the search with whatever other new posts/threads there are since I looked last time & therefore I miss things that may have been in the last few pages but that haven't since had a new post & therefore not in the new list. Occasionally it will also include threads that it says I haven't read yet but that don't have new posts, however it does not seem to do this consistently.

So normally what I do is click new posts once, then scroll through, click on thread that interests me, read & then use the back button on the browser to get back to the new post thread list. Use the button at the bottom to progress to the next page etc. Then eventually I will get the message I mentioned when I try to progress to the next page of threads.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe it's just not possible to do it that way over an extended period (I'm talking maybe two or three hours)

Any suggestions?

Thats "normal" for VB forums. Every time you click on "New Post" it searches for the new posts for you & gives that search an ID

Example http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/search.php?searchid=3764986

Ever search ID does expire after a while, that's why you are getting the "no matches" thing.

The Admin of the forum, should be able to extend the expiry time of a search.

Thanks for explaining a bit more about how it all works - I really have no idea about these things. I'm one of those people who expect computers to just work the way I want LOL!

So it sounds like there's not much I can do about it myself....anyone in admin care to extend the search expiry just for me? Pretty please...

It's ok - I'll just have to live with missing some of the interesting stuff - or go looking in the sections that interest me most one by one.

Open the new threads to new tabs and keep the "New Posts" tab intact. If there's two pages of new posts then open both on their own tab?
