I just signed up and happy to be here with all of these knowledgeable members. My question is that I would like to start putting some of my pictures online for friends, family etc to see but not sure if pbase of smugmug or flicker would be better. I am sort of favoring smugmug but perhaps others might have some feedback that would give me something to think about. Thanks a lot.

I have used smugmug and like it alot. Have always (simultaneously) used FLICKR as well. Now am using zenfolio (a litte cheaper than smugmug) and FLICKR. Check them all lout and go with the one that you like best. They're all good.

I think you'll find most here use flickr. And it works well with DPS. Try flickr for free. Give it a run and see if you like it.

I use Ipernity as it has a built in blog as well as photo sharing.
I would suggest trying them all out for free. Check out how easy it and fast it is to upload to them, how well they allow customisations etc.

I haven't used Smugmug but I hear it would be easier for the inexperienced web users to browse the pictures and that Flickr is more confusing with the navigation. Probably both are worth checking out though.

I use flickr and image event. I find image event the best for sharing with family, it's password controlled, no "yahoo account" requirements and the site is simple enough to navigate for those not so familiar with the web. A bit expensive ($65 per year for an unlimited account), but the file size limit is 100mb (very good) and multiple file types (incl MSOffice) can be uploaded. I've never had a complaint, but judging by the response to suggested changes their customer service is excellent.
flickr, on the other hand, is clearly the best for sharing throughout the web. That's why I use both.
