Exclamation Photo Op of a Lifetime

Some of you may have heard about this already, but for those who haven't:

Between now and the end of August (with August 27th being the optimal date), our planet will be the closest to Mars it has ever been in recorded history. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, as it is estimated that the next time this will happen is near the year 2300.

Mars will be the 2nd brightest thing in the sky, and will appear to be nearly as large as the moon towards the end of August. At the beginning of the month, it will be more difficult to see. It will begin to rise in the sky @ around 10:00pm (EST) and reach its apex at around 3:00am. By August 27th, it will be most visible @ around 12:30am.

So mark your calendars for the photo op of a lifetime!

Large as the moon you say? I must say, that sounds pretty damn cool.

Now who wants to buy me a tele-lens!?

Ha! That old chestnut . That myth was doing the rounds last year. I did keep checking to see if it was true though I'm naturally gullible like when the National Lottery was new my sister asked me if I have ever done the Irish Lottery and when I asked her what that was she said you have to get all the numbers wrong to win and for an instant I believed her ... Duh!

LOL!

Call me gullible. My mom sent me an elaborate email on this, so I didn't even question it. After doing some checking...ya, apparently this is just a hoax and has been circulating for awhile now. I guess I've been out of the loop on this one.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time!

Yes Mars was relatively close a few years ago, but not that close. This E-mail pops up every year or two. Another hoax.

Doh, I thought it was too cool to be true. Sadly my desire for awesomeness got the better of me.

Ah, too bad. I ordered a Nikkor 600mm f/4 immediately after I read your post.
