WOW! Such great ideas!

I have in the past thought of doing the Now I lay me down to sleep, but honestly, I dont think emotionally I could even handle it.

I am glad that I read this post though, and have just gotten three great ideas.

Recently, a friend of mine got married while her now husband was back to our city for a few days before deploying to Afghanistan. Unfortuntaltey time didnt allow us to do a shoot for their wedding, but honestly, I didnt know of Operation: Love Reunited .. but now that I do ...
Also, my brother in law is enlisted and just signed up for his third tour.... I will have to offer this to them....

also, I absolutely LOVE the idea of portrait shoots for families who lost everything in a fire.... simply irreplaceable...

Every year I photograph the Little League's Western Region Big League Baseball Tournament here in Silverdale, Washington. Normally I shoot the sports action and umpires. The action, I put online to sell to parents. The pictures of umpires, who are from Alaska, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Oregon and California are burnt on CD's, which I give to them free of charge. Gosh did I say free? I figure, if they place a free ad in their program for me and announce my Sports Action Business between innings, I guess I can donate a few images to the umpires, who spend their own money to get here to officiate the games.

That is a really great idea. I wonder what the best way to get hooked up with the families would be.

Default Oplove

I volunteer with Operation: LoveReunited and have had a wonderful experience with them. Their website (Operation: Love ReUnited (TM) - FREE Photography Sessions for deploying, depolyed and returning military families. 501(c)3 Non Profit Organization) does a wonderful job of explaining what they do and how you can get involved.

You could probably contact the local Red Cross or other agency that helps with the families who have been affected by fire.

Another Volunteer Idea is an organization called Soulumination
Soulumination...Private Grief | Public Education
From their Vision: "Soulumination, founded by Lynette Huffman Johnson, celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life threatening conditions by providing professional photographs--free of charge--of these special individuals and their families. The life-affirming photographs of Soulumination are an enduring, positive record of the child's brief life, and provide a loving legacy for the children of parents lost to terminal illness. "
