Default Can I get your vote?

These threads asking for your votes should be considered spam and should be closed. They don't promote discussion and encourage other people to do the same. This isn't a "vote" store. Get them someplace else. But, hey, that's just my opinion.

It's kind of amusing. People here, asking other people here, to vote for them in a contest here.......that the other people here also entered!

It's lunacy and imagine if everyone who entered that contest came over to general chat and posted a thread about it. Pfft.

I'm just not a big fan of audience voted competitions either. They turn what is meant to be a competition of art into a competition of popularity. You get your friends and forum people (who just vote out of group solidarity a lot of the time) to boost your votes. They aren't looking at the piece and judging it objectively and how many neutral visitors will come by and look at every entry and judge it on it's merits? Hardly any I would imagine.

What's more the public en masse have pretty bad taste as it is (just look at the pop charts), meaning that any old crap could possibly win.

Oftentimes these "voting" sites are just harvesting details off the people who vote.
They require having your email address as prerequisite to voting or winning a prize.
They now have a legitimate email address to sell to spammers.

I agree, if no policy is established there will likely be more and more of these threads popping up as people see them as a 'legitimate' way to win a 'contest'.

Whether or not these competitions are valid is really a matter of personal opinion if someone wants to enter then why not but save the vote requests for facebook etc.

I would rather talk about Kathy Bates' merkin than to have to endure a political discussion on DPS. I always get sucked in to them, and I really don't want to go there on here. Please?.. The POTUS or his administration have nothing to do with a photo contest.

This has really gone too far. Now I'm getting PM's asking for my vote.
