Default My cat's been killed by a dog - I'm devistated!!

My beloved Amber who was 16 years old has been killed by a dog and I cannot get over the image in my head of her in that damn dogs jaws

I'd only just got home from school with my kids and saw Amber spread out on our driveway enjoying the summer sun when suddenly a Staffordshire type terrier came sprinting round the corner, onto our driveway and grabbed her by the body in its jaws and shook her from side to side. I was screaming and screaming, hollering you name it. It eventually let go and she went running under my car.

This all happened in front of my kids! My son and daughter are beside themselves.

I eventually managed to coax Amber from under my car, left my kids with a neighbour and rushed her down to the vet where she put her in an oxygen tent to help her breathe.

Amber deteriorated rapidly and was on her way out when it was decided the kindest thing of all was to put her to sleep.

My hubby met me at the vet and we gave her her final kisses and cuddles and said our goodbyes.

I can't get over this. I was there at her birth and invisaged her final days of her laying in the sun and finding her dead in her sleep. She NEVER experienced pain in the whole of her life

We got in touch with the owner of the dog and are going to forward her the vet bill!

Rest in peace Ambs:

Amber

That is the saddest thing in weeks! Did the owners of the dog just stand there watching!!!

We almost lost a cat that way a couple years ago, well, I guess we did, his hips were squished and he ended up dying a few months later.

What a horrible thing to go through, for you, your kids and the poor cat. How long had you had her?

Oh, Rachel! What a terrible, terrible thing to happen, I'm so sorry. I'm a cat lover and I know how much they become such a part of the family. For her to die in such a horrible way just breaks my heart. My thoughts are with you and your family - those poor kids, having to witness something so tragic. My heart goes out to you.

Thank you for your kind words.

In the owners defence she was horrified about what she was witnessing but I don't think she realised the full inpact of Ambers injuries and kept saying she was probably just in shock.

She did give me her mobile number (I didn't get her address because I was in too much of a state of shock).

My husband called her when we got back from the vet minus Amber and she was crying on the phone

One of my neighbours knows her as her house backs onto hers and she said that she's had problems keeping control of her dogs in the past which is why at the moment she's having a tall fence installed to keep her dogs from escaping.

Indigo we had Amber 16 years. I got her from my sister's cat. I went over there one night for dinner and during the meal Tawny gave birth and out popped Amber and it was love at first sight!
