Default General Question

Do lens filters such as a UV filter perform the same on a DSLR as they do on 35mm ?

More or less, yeah.

UV filters reduced blue casts on film, but are only used for protection on digital as the sensor has it's own UV blocking filter.

So, yeah.

Interesting. Not arguing because I really don't know, but why does my Sigma 300-800mm F/ 5.6 and Sigma 500mm f/ 4.5 both come with drop in UV filters? The 500 is a bit older, but the 300-800 is definitely newer and made for the digital market... (I have read on the web that a filter in place is required as it's part of the optical formula...but clear glass or UV doesn't make much sense in that regard IMO)
